When you first woke up this morning did you swing your legs over and sit up in your bed? If so you are blessed. Did you reach your arm up and wipe sleep from your eye? If so you are blessed. Did you stumble from your bed into the bathroom, pick up your toothbrush to brush your teeth? If so you are blessed. I know for myself doing every single one of those things was a normal life routine for me, until I had to watch my husband fight to do those same small things for himself. It made me realize how many of the small blessings I take for granted in the course of a day, and trust me there are a lot of them. As people we are so quick to talk about the injustices done to us and complain about the things that go wrong when we very rarely take the time to think about the things that go right. That's because in all honesty we take them for granted. People take their health for granted, people take their bed for granted, people take the fact that they have life for granted and on and on it goes. If you think about your life the ratio of bad things that happen to you compared to the blessings that you have-the scales are tilted way more towards the blessing side. If you can even open your mouth to complain about something you have the ability to speak-there is someone else on this planet that would give anything to have the ability that you so freely use without giving it a second thought. It makes me wonder how our world would be different if we lived our lives in a place of thankfulness instead of ungratefulness. Because walking through this journey has made me thankful for the smallest things and the simplest of moments. Even something as small as sitting down to eat dinner together, man I would give anything for a moment like that right now. But yet, coming from a place of thankfulness, I still have a family and I have a home to come home to and I have food on my table. And things might be difficult right now but wow how blessed am I? And how good is God? James 1:17 (NIV) Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
And in the spirit of thankfulness how perfect was this moment?
Sitting up on his own for a moment unassisted, something we had taken for granted before, never again.
Small steps until we reach the final goal-but we will get there. Tomorrow Joel will leave the hospital to be transferred to his inpatient rehab facility where they will work hard with him to regain that left side. He will have to re-learn everything that he already knew and he will have to fight hard for what he once had but fight he will. Please be praying for this next part of the journey because its a crucial one. Thank you so much friends. We never take your prayers for granted.
Your Love Never Fails-Jesus Culture
Nothing can separate Even if I ran away Your love never fails I know I still make mistakes But You have new mercies for me everyday Your love never fails
You stay the same through the ages Your love never changes There may be pain in the night but joy comes in the morning And when the oceans rage I don't have to be afraid Because I know that You love me Your love never fails
The wind is strong and the water's deep But I'm not alone here in these open seas Cause Your love never fails The chasm is far too wide I never thought I'd reach the other side But Your love never fails
