We are thiiiiiiiiis close to getting out of ICU. The doctor put in orders for Joel to be moved today but guess what-there are no beds available! So now we wait until one opens up, hopefully tomorrow. Joel has gotten almost all of the tubes removed from his body the only one that remains is one more chest tube to help with the drainage from his first surgery. They removed the other tube this morning. His vitals and everything are stable and he talks to us. He misses home and Milo a lot. It's hard to hear him talk about how badly he wants to go home and to know that he still has another few weeks left in the physical therapy rehab facility. But I just keep telling him to work hard and he will get there. He's so determined.I just want to take a moment to tell you how AMAZING our friends and family are. My parents and siblings have helped us so much and we couldn't do it without them. Our friends Anthony and Heather have come to the hospital, cooked meals, mowed our lawn, watched my son and more. My friend Lauren-where to start with her. She's just one of the greatest human beings on this planet. And she has been there for us in every moment and in every way. Then there's our church-Antioch Norman-wow I love my church. I love the hearts and the kindness of the people of my church. They are genuine, authentic and real. They love Jesus like no church that I have ever seen before and that is what I love the most about them. They have surrounded us completely. The night of Joel's emergency surgery a huge group of them gathered up and prayed for hours for us. They wrote words of encouragement which I taped to my bathroom mirror. And they went above and beyond collecting a gift for us that blew me away when they gave it to me. So to those whose names were on the card here is the only place I know that I can thank you all at once! Ryan & Ashley H., Aaron & Sarah R., Barrett & Lindsay H., Gib & Lauren P., Josh & Hollis P., Chris & Julie B., Dustin & Shyla S., Brian & Krista S., Jon & Lauren S., Kevin & Michelle L., Luke & Whitney M., Joey & Lauren K., and David & Taylor F.-you all will never know how your generosity has touched our family. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. To anyone else who has come to visit, called, texted, and prayed thank you! So now is a waiting game for when he is transferred to rehab. He still has his humor. He cracks jokes all the time. When I talked to him about rehab he started singing "They tried to make me go to rehab I said, no no no." (A little Amy Whinehouse reference). We are just standing and believing that when he goes there we will see rapid recovery in that left side. We know that God did a miracle in saving his life and now we need Him to do a miracle in restoring his left side to him. But like I've said before He never fails and he won't stop now. Tomorrow is Fathers Day and we are working on making it a super special one-even though we will be spending it in the hospital. I will blog about it tomorrow. Please continue to pray for Joel. Pray for rest. It's hard to sleep at a hospital, especially in ICU, and he has been there for 10 days. Pray for strength for him for the days ahead. And lastly please continue to stand with us that God will completely restore to Joel all that was taken from him and that he will have full use of his entire body once again.
But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds. (Psalm 73:28 NIV)
Thank you friends.
