Update 18

After getting the tube out Joel did wonderfully yesterday. As of today he was able to get off of oxygen and even eat solid foods-pancakes and applesauce. He no longer has any tubes down his throat so he is able to fully communicate with us which is wonderful. He has been having a really, really hard time sleeping because his mind is so alert to everything going on around him. Sleeping meds didn't help last night so they are going to give him something stronger tonight so he can get some rest. The journey into physical therapy has begun. It's a difficult one. It's incredibly hard to watch them push him so hard and also to watch him push himself. He wants to get better and he wants to go home. I just keep telling him to work hard and he will be able to soon. It's hard to see your husband go from where he was to where he is now. BUT I have to keep reminding myself that this is just but a part of journey and by no means the final destination. That doesn't make it any easier but that's what I try to tell myself. We have so far to go that it is sometimes overwhelming to me. Thank you to those who have prayed so fervently for us and to those who have reached out to us. Our dearest friends have been cooking us meals, mowing our lawn, coming to visit, bringing food, grocery shopping for us-the list goes on and on. A simple thank you doesn't seem like near enough but to those of you who I am speaking of-thank you, we adore you, and we couldn't have made it this far without you!!

Great Are You Lord-All Sons & Daughters
