I don't feel as if I have the adequate words to explain how amazing this day was, but I will do my best. I know it might sound odd to call the one year anniversary of my husband's passing amazing, but I know even he would have been blown away by what transpired.
Today, what started as a day to honor Joel, turned into even more than that. People from all over the US (and beyond!) made today a day of Choosing Joy and spreading that joy to others. You brought your neighbors cookies, gave them a journal, gave away appliances, gassed up peoples cars, gave away Wal-Mart gift cards, gave the gift of coffee, purchased dinner for others-the list goes on and on.
The bottom line is, you stepped into someone else's world and gave them the gift of kindness. Your life displayed beauty and hopefulness to them in so many ways.
I have already received emails from some of the people you touched. I wish I could read them all to you. Some people talked about how blown away they were by you guys. Many told me your gift made them want to cry. Others did cry. Some told me they had recently experienced loss, and this gave them hope. On and on these messages went, and that is just from the ones who contacted me, can you imagine how many more feel the same way?
You will never truly know the difference you made in someones life through this project. You could have radically changed someones day, just by the smallest act of kindness.
You will also never know the difference you made in my life today. You turned, what could have been a crushing day, into an incredibly humbling day for our family. You inspired us all by the way you served and loved on others. You more than honored Joel. He would have been awe inspired by you.
My heart is so proud of you all and bursting with gratitude for each of you. You took the vision of Choose Joy and ran with it in ways, far beyond, what I could've ever dreamed.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Here are some of the pictures you all sent to me today. Hope you guys enjoy.
Hey, let's do this again next year, shall we? :)
