"My comfort in my suffering is this-Your promise preserves my life." Psalm 119:50 Over the past few days we haven't been the only ones in shock over the news of Joel's illness. Many, many people have contacted us saying that it wasn't fair that this happened to us. They have expressed disbelief & anger. Some have even expressed the sentiment that this proves there isn't a God or questioning Gods plan. I think any time bad things happen people will feel they can use that as a reason to blame God. "Where was God on 9/11?" "Where was God when the car accident happened?" "Where was God when you got cancer?" People that say they don't even believe in God will use a tragedy as an even greater excuse for why God doesn't exist or if He does exist at all He certainly isn't very caring. We hear it again & again. The truth of the matter is-sometimes things just happen. Sometimes there is no particular rhyme or reason for why they do. God never promised us that our lives would be perfect. In fact He said in John 16:33 "In this world you WILL have trouble" but His promise to us is what comes directly after "But take heart! I have overcome the world." Through this valley that we are in we have asked why-but we never question God's existence or plan. Truthfully-He has made Himself closer to us than ever. He has been there to wipe every tear & hear every prayer. He doesn't say that sickness or sadness won't come-He just says He has overcome it. He is bigger than anything we face. And if we rely on Him in the troubling moments of our lives, He will prove Himself just as faithful to us.
If we have any desire in what we have walked through it is not that this illness will lead you to question God or His plan. It is that through our experience you will see how truly amazing our God is. And our prayer is that He will make Himself as real to you, the reader, as He has & continues to be to us.
There have been some people who have left comments who have said that their family members or friends are walking through a similar battle with cancer. We want you to know that we are standing with you in prayer over your loved ones!
Friends-please be in continued prayer for Joel & his surgery. We are believing that the Dr will go in & remove the cancer & no further action will be necessary. We serve a big God & we are expecting big things. Thank you for your prayers.
