Chemo cycle #10 is complete. All in all it ended up being a pretty good cycle. They administered 2 new nausea drugs along with the 3 additional nausea drugs that Joel was already taking. While he still had a lot of nausea he was able to keep all of his food down. That alone was a HUGE answer to prayer. He also has been able to rebound and hasn't felt nearly as worn out as the last cycle. We were so thankful that everything went so well and we thank you, very much so, for your prayers. Do you remember all the way back to chemo cycle #1 for us? It started in August of last year. We were going week long cycles in-patient at the hospital. One that very first cycle when we came home my Mom had put a welcome home sign on the door for us. We never took it down. Now she adds a sign to the door after every cycle and we have quite the collection. We keep it up as an encouragement to Joel, while also reminding us of how far we have come. It is the door leading from our garage into our home so we see it every single day. Here is a pic:
I do have to tell you a funny story about the most recent sign. Here it is:
When I got home and saw that I started laughing hysterically at the Charlie Sheen reference. Then I thought about it-how was my Mom's finger so on the pulse of pop culture? Turns out it wasn't. When I asked her why she put it on the sign she said "Well, because I always hear you guys saying it all the time! Why??? Does it mean something bad??"
I have talked a lot about viewing this time of chemo in terms of seasons. We started in the dead of summer. I knew before we were through we would have to get through that fall, a long winter, a spring, and then finally another summer before we were done. Well we are now in the thick of spring (although you wouldn't have known it at the start of the week!). After we get through spring our summer will finally be here. We are so very, very close. When I think of summer there is one thing that I always think of-snow cones! It is a favorite treat of Joel and mine. Today he felt up for going for a drive to get one of our favorite treats. Snow-cones mean summer time and our long awaited summer is nearly here.
