For those of you who have followed this blog awhile, you know I was, in no way, the cooker of our family. That job was reserved for my husband, #1 because he loved to cook and #2 because he was amazing at it. I could count on one hand the amount of meals I cooked in the course of our marriage. He cooked and I would do the dishes, that was our trade.
After his death I knew I had to take on the responsibility of cooking for our family, or else we would all starve. As one who was not at all comfortable in a kitchen, it was daunting to say the least. Thankfully once I got in there to familiarize myself with our kitchen, I realized that my husband had just about every cooking pot and utensil known to man! He made my job much easier.
I have several kitchen tools I love and will blog about them in time. For today's post I thought I would start with my favorite of them all-my Dutch Oven. From casseroles to frying, this pot works like a charm and is absolute perfection for all of my favorite soups and stews.
Oh how I love my Dutch Oven. I could write love poems to my Dutch Oven I love it so much. There are a million reasons to use them but here are my top reasons:
#1 Cooks evenly-Hands down my Dutch Oven cooks the most thoroughly and evenly of all my pans.
#2 Naturally Non-Stick-So you save calories by not having to cook with oil. Win!
#3 Easy to Clean-Clean up is a breeze with this pot. Typically I don't even have to use soap.
#4 Sturdiness-These ovens are sturdy and last forever. We've had ours for over 5 years and it is still just as good as the first day we bought it.
Now, for price. You can spend some BIG bucks on a Dutch Oven. The Rolls Royce of them all is the Le Creuset which in my preferred size (5-6 quart) retails for $325. Yikes! One day in my dreams I will own this pot. For now, the version we settled on is by a brand called Lodge which is $78 over on Amazon. Although this one isn't top of the line, it's worked beautifully for my intended purposes.
Can you tell how much I love this little pot? Basically it makes cooking fool-proof, which we all need from time to time.
*Tip-When Black Friday comes around keep an eye out for these pots! They are easy to find at really cheap prices (we got ours that day for $20).
*I am not a paid endorser for this product. Opinions are my own.
