I L.O.V.E. Adult Coloring Books

Ok, so judging this post by title alone you might be saying to yourself "Adult Coloring Books? Is that really a thing??" My answer to you would be: yes it is my friend and it is glorious.

Have you ever just sat and colored with your kids? Let me tell you, I often do with Milo. The only problem is he's done in about 5 seconds while I'm still intricately coloring all of the fine details. Not only that, but sometimes he's already onto the next play toy and I'm still sitting at the table with the coloring books.

Simply put, doing artistic things with your hands is a HUGE stress reliever! It is something I have used as a therapeutic element in grief. They use art in therapy all the time, because it works. While creating it releases something within your heart so healing.

It wasn't too long ago I started to hear about Adult Coloring Books. At first I dismissed them as something silly. Then one day after coloring with Milo I realized how calming the process could be. So did the creators of the Adult Coloring Books. They tapped into the fact that we live in a crazy, mixed up, stressful world and created the ultimate stress reliever: coloring.

So how does it work? Simple. You just buy a coloring book, some high quality markers (or Crayons) and go to town. Don't let the "adult" in the title fool you. All that means is you'll be coloring detailed pictures of birds and flowers instead of Captain America or Mickey Mouse.

One of the best parts? It is a cheap activity (I've even heard of people have Adult Coloring Book parties-so fun!). The coloring books range from $5-$15. Amazon has a nice selection, I've listed a few that grabbed my attention below. My favorite place to buy them is Barnes and Noble in the bargain section. I can always find a few high quality books there for around $5-$10.

Admittedly I don't have as much time to sit down with a coloring book as I would like. But if I'm looking for an activity to de-stress and calm, coloring books are at the top of my list!
